New year brings new face to IHS

The owner of the new helpful face at the attendance secretary’s desk in the IHS office is no stranger to life at school.
Shellie Regehr, who began work Jan. 3, right before students returned from winter break, isn’t new to the district either; she worked first as a fifth-grade paraprofessional at Lincoln Elementary School and then at McKinley Elementary as a second-grade para.
Regehr was hired after Amy Utley, one of the school’s assistant secretaries, announced that she would be shifting the direction of her career at the end of the first semester to work with her husband at Utley Auto here in Iola. Caroline Cole now works in Utley’s former position in the office.
While Regehr said she welcomes the change – “I get to look up at the students instead of down” – her job requires “a lot of juggling. There’s a lot of activities to keep track of.”
Overall, she said, she likes it a lot at IHS. Her work also brings her closer to her oldest son, Chase, who is a freshman. Regehr has another son, a seventh-grader, and her husband, Brian, farms full time.
