The IHS basketball teams are gaining their footing in a new season.
For the Mustangs, the season started slowly, but the boys’ team has made it up to speed. After beginning the season with two close losses, one coming in double overtime, the Mustangs got their first win against
Louisburg while at the Burlington tournament.
“I am excited about this year’s Mustangs,” coach Bill Peeper said as the team headed to the tourney recently, “and I am anxious about the rest of the season.”
One obstacle to success is that many of the key players do not have much varsity experience.
“It is going to take a few games to get everyone working together, though I expect we will develop into a team that could come out on top,” senior Mason Coons said.
For the Fillies, the road has been tough. But coach Becky Carlson is optimistic: “We are a young team, so I expect to get better as the season goes on.”
She said she is looking forward to league games because the Pioneer League “will be a good league for us to compete in.”
“It takes an inch to grow an inch,” senior Libby Shay said. “It takes each game to get better; the little steps count.”
