The girls’ tennis team, which added six news players to create a young squad this year, ended its season at regionals in October.
Seniors this year were Abbey StClair, Katana Smith, Holly Schomaker and Shelby Brown.
Many players were given awards and recognition for their work and participation. The annual coach’s award, given to the player deemed most deserving, was earned by Smith, who also snagged best attitude honors. Most wins for the varsity went to StClair and Alexis Hobbs, who also played at regionals.
Many new players have come aboard the team to replace the four seniors who will be departing.
“We had a lot of new players,” coach Jenn Bycroft said, “six to be exact. So we had a lot of inexperience, not just in playing tennis and learning the fundamentals, but also in match situations as well.”
Some results of hard work and practice is placing well in the league. StClair and Hobbs were No. 1 in doubles. Shelby Reno and Bobbi Sinclair were No. 2 in doubles. In singles, Katana Smith was No. 1 and Megan Smith No. 2.
