Iola runners tearing up the track

Track season hasn’t particularly gotten off on the right foot, or in senior Adam Kauth’s case, the left ankle.
Kauth has been struggling with a sprain, causing him to delay competing in three events which are normally vital for scoring points.
“I’m planning on competing next Friday at the Fredonia relays,” said Kauth. “This injury has kept me from running and practicing hurdles. It’s crazy because this season is already halfway over for me.“
However, this injury has not completely been holding back the season.
“For the most part, the best we’ve been doing in is pole vaulting, 4×8 relays, and Tyler Powelson’s 1600,” said coach Marvin Smith.
At the Coffeyville meet held on April 15, Powelson took the gold in the 1600 with a time of 5 minutes flat.
“This year, senioritis sort of kicked in,” said Powelson. “I’m not off to as great of a start as I was last year. But I’m sure if I keep working hard I’ll hopefully get to the same point I was in last year.”
Powelson recently signed for Emporia State University to run next year’s track season.
