Volleyball, one of the biggest fall high school sports, is back for another season at Iola High School. The team has had two tournaments so far, with a win for 7th place at their first. Senior Taylor Sell says “this is a young team, and we should perform really well towards the end of the season.”

Performing takes preparation, and the Fillies have been doing just that. “We had a team camp this summer, as well as hosting a league for surrounding schools,” says Coach Sigg. The team also spent a week before the season to focus on conditioning, and have been working on drills and lots of scrimmaging.

Now that the season has started, Coach says the team has been working on passing and communication. Sell says “we have a lot of freshmen out this year, and I’d really like to make progress towards where we were at in the past.” Out of the seven on the varsity squad in the 14-15 season, four were seniors. “Last year we had a really experienced team with a lot of girls that played together since middle school.”

“I’d like to just continue making gains every practice and every game,” Sell says in conclusion. “I see us being a strong team in coming years.”
