The Mustangs took to the mat and posted a strong showing. They wrapped up their regular season in early February. Iola wrestlers demonstrated their skills at regionals on February 17, as three out of the four varsity wrestlers earned a birth in the second round of the regional tournament. Seniors Colton Toney, Tavon Blazek, and freshman Gary Lower traveled to Frontenac and faced other 4A competitors from other southeast Kansas schools.

In the heavyweight class, Toney faced nemesis T.J. Lang from Burlington. Toney scored a point for an escape in the second round of the match, which was enough for the final margin of victory, 1-0.  Toney earned the right to compete in the state finals in Salina on February 24 and 25.
