Iola District Hires New Leader

A new face shall be leading the school district next year. USD 257 Superintendent Brian Pekarek resigned from his position in January, and the board in March hired Jack Koehn as his replacement.
Pekarek, who has led the district for two years, is leaving in order to be closer to his family in western Kansas.
Koehn is the current principal of Canton-Galva High School. He begins his two-year contract July 1.
He won the 2012 KSPA Administrator of the Year Award. In 2010 he defended his school’s student newspaper after the town’s mayor demanded the newspaper retract an opinion.
Koehn has worked as a principal, technology coordinator, history teacher,and basketball coach. He attended Canton-Galva High School, McPherson College and Emporia State University.
